Each member of the Wellness Concepts staff is passionate about our mission and truly dedicated to making sure our patients receive the very best possible care.
We work and function as a team, drawing on each other's individual strengths in order to serve in a way that makes every patient feel like our only one.
Martin Plotkin, M.D.
is the founder and medical director of Wellness Concepts.
Dr. Plotkin is a licensed physician, surgeon and educator, with over
45 years of experience in areas of medical practice that are truly multi-dimensional and unlikely to be matched by other medical doctors.

Robin Plotkin, R.N.,B.S.,B.S.N., Registered Nurse and Practice Manager
Robin has a background in Medical Social Work and has 25 years experience as a Registered Professional Nurse. Past experiences include Orthopaedics, Medical Surgical, Rehabilitation, Neonatal Intensive Care, private duty nursing, Employee Health, Public Health and currently Holistic Medicine. Married to Dr. Plotkin, she works along with him as Practice Manager.
Wendy Reed, Medical Facilitator/Allergy Manager
Wendy started in the Environmental Medicine Field in 1977. She was trained under Theron Randolph, M.D., and practiced Allergy Testing and Treatment for over 15 years at his clinic (The Randolph Clinic). Dr. Randolph was faculty at Northwestern University Medical School and known as the Father of Clinical Ecology, now more commonly known as Environmental Medicine.
Wendy now leads our Allergy Program, as well as assisting in phlebotomy and various other medical capacities.
Ami Atkocaitis, B.A., CCT
Ami joined the Wellness Concepts team in 2009. She holds a degree in Psychology from Wheaton College and is a Certified Clinical Thermographer. Ami is one of our patient coordinator/ advocates.
She manages many aspects of patient care, communication and education, and enjoys the challenge of striving to ensure that each patient receives the highest quality care possible.
Ami also oversees the functioning of our Thermography department. She has been our thermography technician since 2009 and also offers educational presentations to the community on this topic.
Alyssa Erickson
Alyssa joined our team in 2012 as a patient advocate/coordinator. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree from University of Iowa in Elementary Education. She handles much of our patient care and communication, as well as overseeing the Wellness Concepts social media marketing. Alyssa enjoys truly getting to know each of our patients and creating an environment where they feel heard and cared for.
Karen Connolly, CN, Certified FLT Lifestyle Educator
Karen received her Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Dominican University in Lake Forest, and has worked in the Health and Nutrition fields for over 20 years.
She began her career working as a pharmacy technician for nine years, following which, she provided nutritional consulting services to healthcare professionals for 10 years. While consulting, Karen helped implement Wellness Programs in hospitals, medical clinics, fitness centers, pharmacies, and medical spas. She also provided coaching to doctors, their staff, and patients on various health-related topics.
Karen was certified as an FLT Lifestyle Educator in 2005, and as such, provides nutritional assessment and counseling, diet analysis, BIA testing, supplement analysis, weight loss, diet coaching, and lecturing services to her patients. She is also actively involved in numerous nutrition and health-related volunteer programs.
